Pick Fireflies if you run a sales or customer team that wants call notes pushed into a CRM, conversation analytics across many reps, and a bot that records every call. Pick Whisperer if you're on a Mac, want meeting notes for yourself without a bot in the call, and want audio and transcripts kept on your own computer for $2.99 plus $14.99 once.
The short version#
Fireflies' assistant, Fred, joins your calls on Zoom, Teams, Google Meet and other platforms. A Chrome extension and, on paid plans, a Mac and Windows desktop app can also record without the bot, but the audio is still sent to Fireflies for processing. It writes a summary, and sends notes and action items to the tools your team already uses, such as a CRM or Slack. Managers get dashboards across calls.
Whisperer runs on your Mac. It notices a call by seeing which app opened the microphone, asks if you want notes, or records automatically for meetings on your calendar. It records both sides of the call, transcribes and identifies speakers on the device, and writes a title, overview, key topics, decisions, action items with owners and open questions. See how meetings work.

Where Fireflies wins#
- Integrations. Fireflies connects to CRMs, project tools and chat apps, and can log call notes there automatically. Whisperer has none of that built in.
- Team analytics. Talk time, topics and trends across a whole team's calls. Useful for sales managers. Whisperer is a personal tool.
- Records without you. Fred can attend a meeting your laptop isn't in. Whisperer only records calls your Mac is part of.
- More places. Fireflies works from the web, on iPhone and Android, and on Windows and Mac. It transcribes 100+ languages, though its own FAQ calls most beyond English beta. Whisperer needs a Mac with Apple Silicon and macOS 26 Tahoe.
- Sharing. Notes and clips are easy to send to people who weren't on the call.
Where Whisperer wins#
- No bot. Nobody sees a notetaker join. Clients and candidates often react better to that. Whisperer shows a one-time consent reminder before your first recording, and telling people is up to you.
- Private by default. Audio stays on your Mac, kept as compressed audio with a retention setting: never delete, or after 7, 30, 90 or 365 days. No account, no analytics.
- Your choice of AI. Use the built-in Qwen3.5 4B model offline, or your Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Gemini plan, or an API key. Only the text transcript goes to a cloud AI you pick. If it is unavailable, the Mac takes over.
- MCP for your AI apps. Turn on the MCP server and Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or ChatGPT can search meetings, read transcripts and add notes labelled with their name. It is off by default and only apps on your Mac can reach it.
- Dictation included. Hold Fn, speak, release, press ⌘V. Mid-call dictation pauses the meeting and resumes it after.
- Cost. $17.98 total, compared with $120 a year for Fireflies Pro billed yearly.

FAQ#
Is Whisperer a good Fireflies alternative?#
For someone working on a Mac who wants private notes without a bot, yes. Whisperer records, transcribes and identifies speakers on your Mac and writes notes with decisions and action items. If your sales team needs CRM updates and call analytics, Fireflies is the stronger tool.
Does Whisperer use a bot like Fireflies' Fred?#
No. Whisperer never joins the call. It records the call audio and your microphone on your own Mac.
How much does Fireflies cost compared with Whisperer?#
Fireflies Pro is $18 a month, or $10 a month billed yearly. Business is $29 a month, or $19 billed yearly. Whisperer is $2.99 plus a $14.99 one-time Pro purchase (public pricing, November 2026).
Can Whisperer send notes to my CRM?#
Not directly. Whisperer has no CRM integration. Through its MCP server, an AI app such as Claude Desktop or Cursor can read your meetings, and you can copy notes wherever you need them.
